FOTOVENT / Practical digital signage: keep the next update simple

A useful screen starts
with a clear update.

Before choosing a player, decide who changes the content, how often and from where.

Give each screen a job

A shop window introduces a product. A reception screen gives the day’s programme. A restaurant display makes the current menu easy to find. Use readable graphics and a sequence short enough for the time people spend in front of it.

Make ownership explicit

Decide who prepares the files, who uploads them and who approves publication. Separate those permissions where needed. A guest contribution should not grant access to the whole playlist.

Choose the right delivery route

Local playback suits a computer already on site. Remote access helps when someone updates that computer from elsewhere. Hosted browser playback suits compatible screens that can remain online. Test network restrictions and power behaviour before installation.
